bub-1 encodes a serine/threonine kinase orthologous to Saccharomyces cerevisiae BUB1 which is required for proper function of the mitotic spindle assembly checkpoint and human BUB1 (OMIM:602452) which is mutated in some colorectal cancers; BUB-1 activity is required at several stages of development, including embryogenesis; BUB-1 is expressed predominantly in the anterior of the embryo and in hypodermal seam cells during the L1 and L2 larval stages.
