Y67H2A.5 encodes a KASH domain (klarsicht, ANC-1 and Syne) protein; vertebrate KASH domain proteins include SYNE1 and SYNE2; most KASH domain proteins do not share primary sequence homology outside of their KASH domain; Y67H2A.5 is required for meiotic progression in the gonad and normal cell cycle progression in the early embryo; knock-down of Y67H2A.5 results in embryonic and larval lethalities; Y67H2A.5 encoded protein binds to the SUN domain proteins UNC-84 and SUN-1, and localizes to the nuclear envelope in a SUN-1 dependent manner.
