fcp-1 encodes the C. elegans ortholog of FCP1 phosphatase, an enzyme required for dephosphorylation of the C-terminal domain (CTD) of RNA polymerase II and hence, transcriptional regulation; loss of fcp-1 via large-scale RNAi experiments results in nearly 100% embryonic lethality.
