RNF-5

CELE_C16C10.7, C16C10.7
rnf-5 encodes a homolog of mammalian RNF5, an E3 ubiquitin ligase; in C. elegans, RNF-5 functions as a ubiquitin ligase that regulates activity of the UNC-95 LIM domain protein that is essential for proper formation of muscle attachment structures; RNF-5 is also required for distal tip cell migration (DTC) and genetic interactions suggest that RNF-5 functions at least partially in parallel with the coiled-coil domain protein CCDC-55 and the E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF-121 to regulate DTC migration; RNF-5 localizes to striated muscle dense bodies, cell junctions, and to the nucleus.
