lrs-1 encodes a predicted cytoplasmic leucyl-tRNA synthetase (LeuRS), a class I aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase that catalyzes the attachment of leucine to its cognate tRNA and is thus required for protein biosynthesis; LRS-1 activity is required for embryonic, larval, and germline development, as well as normal body morphology and rates of postembryonic growth.
