BATH-42
CELE_C50C3.8, C50C3.8
bath-42 encodes a BTB (broad-complex, Tramtrack, and bric-a-brac) and MATH (meprin-associated Traf homology) domain-containing protein; loss of bath-42 function results in increased levels of the RIC-3 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR)-specific chaperone in vulval muscles and decreased egg-laying in response to treatment with levamisole, an nAChR agonist; in addition, overexpression of BATH-42 results in decreased pharyngeal pumping, in a manner dependent upon the presence of the RIC-3 C-terminus and the CUL-3 cullin; as BATH-42 interacts in vitro with both CUL-3 and the RIC-3 C-terminus, BATH-42 likely functions to regulate RIC-3 levels via CUL-3-mediated ubiquitination and degradation; bath-42::gfp promoter fusions are expressed in vulval and pharyngeal muscles, some head and body neurons, the posterior intestine, and hypodermal seam cells.
