arl-8 encodes an Arf-like small GTPase and is highly conserved among multicellular organisms; arl-8 regulates transport of axonal presynaptic vesicle protein cargo, most likely by preventing vesicle aggregation; arl-8 is involved in endosome to lysosome transport, by promoting late endosome-lysosome fusion; arl-8 is also required for proper embryonic development; arl-8 associates with synaptic vesicle proteins and localizes to the lysosome.
