dop-5 encodes a homolog of human melatonin type 1b receptors, and more generally of mammalian dopamine and serotonin (5-HT) receptors; dop-5 is partly required for male tail curling, with dop-5 (RNAi) animals showing reduced curling in exogenous 5-HT; dop-5 is required for full sensitivity to 5-HT, normal brood sizes, and pharyngeal pumping; dop-5 is expressed in head and tail neurons.
