IFA-4 encodes a nonessential intermediate filament protein that is coexpressed with the essential IF protein IFB-1; IFA-4 binds IFB-1 in blot overlay assays; ifa-4 is expressed in larvae in the pharyngeal-intestinal valve, the rectum, some neurons of the tail, the excretory cell, and the intestine of dauer (but not nondauer) larvae; IFA-4 has no function in RNAi assays.
