lpr-4 encodes one of seven C. elegans proteins related to the lipocalin family of structurally related, low molecular weight, secreted proteins that bind and transport lipophilic molecules and participate in intercellular signaling; loss of lpr-4 via RNAi has been reported to result in defective yolk endocytosis; lpr-4 appears to be expressed in body wall muscle.
