Caenorhabditis elegans
GPN-1
CELE_F59D12.4, F59D12.4
gpn-1 encodes a glypican, a heparan sulfate proteoglycan anchored to the cell membrane by a GPI linkage, that is orthologous to Drosophila Dally-like (Dlp) and mammalian glypicans (OMIM:312870, mutated in Simpson-Golabi-Behmel overgrowth syndrome); by homology, GPN-1 is predicted to function as a cell surface protein that regulates intercellular signaling, perhaps within the context of cell division and growth regulation; however, as loss of gpn-1 activity via large-scale RNAi screens does not result in any obvious abnormalities, the precise role of GPN-1 in C. elegans development and/or behavior is not yet known.
