Caenorhabditis elegans
VALV-1
CELE_B0496.7, B0496.7
valv-1 encodes one of two C. elegans small LIM domain-containing proteins related to the mammalian CRIP (Cysteine-Rich Intestinal Protein) family of proteins; in C. elegans, valv-1 activity is required for normal functioning of the valves connecting the pharynx to the intestine, the intestine to the rectum, and the uterus to the spermatheca; a valv-1::gfp promoter fusion is expressed in the pharyngeal-intestinal valve, the spermathecal-uterine valve, the intestinal-rectal valve, the vulva, and the pharynx, seam cells, and gonadal sheath cells; valv-1 expression in the excretory canal cell can partially rescue the canal morphology defects seen in exc-9 mutants.
