glb-6 encodes a novel globin-like protein; GLB-6 is expressed in neurons and glb-6 expression is downregulated in a daf-2(e1370) mutant background under normoxic conditions; biochemical characterization of GLB-6 indicates that CO, NO, and CN- do not bind to the heme in GLB-6 and that GLB-6 demonstrates a low redox potential and rapid, two-state autoxidation kinetics.
