Biochemical Activity (Desumoylation)

An interaction is inferred from the biochemical effect of one protein upon another, for example, GTP-GDP exchange activity or phosphorylation of a substrate by a kinase. The bait protein executes the activity on the substrate hit protein. A Modification value is recorded for interactions of this type with the possible values Phosphorylation, Ubiquitination, Sumoylation, Dephosphorylation, Methylation, Prenylation, Acetylation, Deubiquitination, Proteolytic Processing, Glucosylation, Nedd(Rub1)ylation, Deacetylation, No Modification, Demethylation.

Vertebrates express two distinct families of SUMO proteins (SUMO1 and SUMO2/3) that serve distinct functions as posttranslational modifiers. Many proteins are modified specifically with SUMO1 or SUMO2/3, but the mechanisms for paralog selectivity are poorly understood. In a screen for SUMO2/3 binding proteins, we identified Ubiquitin Specific Protease 25 (USP25). USP25 turned out to also be a target for sumoylation, ... [more]
