KAP60, SCM1, karyopherin alpha, L000002755, L000002780, YNL189W
Karyopherin alpha homolog; forms a dimer with karyopherin beta Kap95p to mediate import of nuclear proteins, binds the nuclear localization signal of the substrate during import; involved in cotranslational protein degradation; binds ribosome-bound nascent polypeptides; Srp1p and Sts1p couple proteasomes to nascent polypeptides emerging from the ribosome for cotranslational degradation

NPL3

MTR13, MTS1, NAB1, NOP3, mRNA-binding protein NPL3, L000001270, YDR432W
RNA-binding protein; promotes elongation, regulates termination, and carries poly(A) mRNA from nucleus to cytoplasm; represses translation initiation by binding eIF4G; required for pre-mRNA splicing; interacts with E3 ubiquitin ligase Bre1p, linking histone ubiquitination to mRNA processing; may have role in telomere maintenance; dissociation from mRNAs promoted by Mtr10p; phosphorylated by Sky1p in cytoplasm; protein abundance increases in response to DNA replication stress
Saccharomyces cerevisiae (S288c)

Affinity Capture-Western

An interaction is inferred when a bait protein is affinity captured from cell extracts by either polyclonal antibody or epitope tag and the associated interaction partner identified by Western blot with a specific polyclonal antibody or second epitope tag. This category is also used if an interacting protein is visualized directly by dye stain or radioactivity. Note that this differs from any co-purification experiment involving affinity capture in that the co-purification experiment involves at least one extra purification step to get rid of potential contaminating proteins.

The C-terminal domain of myosin-like protein 1 (Mlp1p) is a docking site for heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins that are required for mRNA export.

For mRNA to be transported from the nucleus to the cytoplasm, it must travel from the site of transcription through the nuclear interior to the nuclear pore. Studies in Saccharomyces cerevisiae have suggested a relationship between poly(A) RNA trafficking and myosin-like protein 1 (Mlp1p), a nuclear-pore associated protein that is homologous to the mammalian Tpr (translocated promoter region) protein [Kosova, ... Mutations/deletions in separate genes, each of which alone causes a minimal phenotype, but when combined in the same cell results in a more severe fitness defect or lethality under a given condition. This term is reserved for high or low throughput studies with scores.
