SUR1

BCL21, CSG1, LPE15, mannosylinositol phosphorylceramide synthase catalytic subunit SUR1, L000002243, YPL057C
Mannosylinositol phosphorylceramide (MIPC) synthase catalytic subunit; forms a complex with regulatory subunit Csg2p; function in sphingolipid biosynthesis is overlapping with that of Csh1p; SUR1 has a paralog, CSH1, that arose from the whole genome duplication
Saccharomyces cerevisiae (S288c)

Affinity Capture-Western

An interaction is inferred when a bait protein is affinity captured from cell extracts by either polyclonal antibody or epitope tag and the associated interaction partner identified by Western blot with a specific polyclonal antibody or second epitope tag. This category is also used if an interacting protein is visualized directly by dye stain or radioactivity. Note that this differs from any co-purification experiment involving affinity capture in that the co-purification experiment involves at least one extra purification step to get rid of potential contaminating proteins.

Protein sorting in the late Golgi of Saccharomyces cerevisiae does not require mannosylated sphingolipids.

Glycosphingolipids are widely viewed as integral components of the Golgi-based machinery by which membrane proteins are targeted to compartments of the endosomal/lysosomal system and to the surface domains of polarized cells. The yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae creates glycosphingolipids by transferring mannose to the head group of inositol phosphorylceramide (IPC), yielding mannosyl-IPC (MIPC). Addition of an extra phosphoinositol group onto MIPC generates ... [more]
