TIM9
protein transporter TIM9, L000004718, YEL020W-A
Essential protein of the mitochondrial intermembrane space; forms a complex with Tim10p (TIM10 complex) that delivers hydrophobic proteins to the TIM22 complex for insertion into the inner membrane

Synthetic Lethality
A genetic interaction is inferred when mutations or deletions in separate genes, each of which alone causes a minimal phenotype, result in lethality when combined in the same cell under a given condition.

Transcription of TIM9, a new factor required for the petite-positive phenotype of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, is defective in spt7 mutants.
TIM9 has been identified as an additional novel gene required for the petite-positive phenotype in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. tim9-1 was obtained through a screen for respiratory-deficient strains that are unable to survive in the absence of mitochondrial DNA. A point mutation found in the tim9-1 coding region converts codon 71 from Gly to Arg. Examination of genes encoding other Tim components ... [more]
