MSS51

L000001205, YLR203C
Specific translational activator for the mitochondrial COX1 mRNA; loosely associated with the matrix face of the mitochondrial inner membrane; localizes to vacuole membrane in response to H2O2; influences both COX1 mRNA translation and Cox1p assembly into cytochrome c oxidase; binds to heme B, which may be a mechanism for sensing oxygen levels in order to regulate cytochrome c oxidase biogenesis

LPG14, Sec63 complex subunit SEC62, L000001853, YPL094C
Essential subunit of Sec63 complex; with Sec61 complex, Kar2p/BiP and Lhs1p forms a channel competent for SRP-dependent and post-translational SRP-independent protein targeting and import into the ER; cotranslationally N-acetylated by NatA; other members are Sec63p, Sec66p, and Sec72p

Negative Genetic

Mutations/deletions in separate genes, each of which alone causes a minimal phenotype, but when combined in the same cell results in a more severe fitness defect or lethality under a given condition. This term is reserved for high or low throughput studies with scores.

We generated a global genetic interaction network for Saccharomyces cerevisiae, constructing more than 23 million double mutants, identifying about 550,000 negative and about 350,000 positive genetic interactions. This comprehensive network maps genetic interactions for essential gene pairs, highlighting essential genes as densely connected hubs. Genetic interaction profiles enabled assembly of a hierarchical model of cell function, including modules corresponding to ... [more]
