UPS2

AIM30, GEP1, MSF1, MSF1', YLR168C
Mitochondrial intermembrane space protein; involved in phospholipid metabolism; has role in regulation of phospholipid metabolism by inhibiting conversion of phosphatidylethanolamine to phosphatidylcholine; null mutant has defects in mitochondrial morphology; similar to Ups1p, Ups3p and to human PRELI; UPS2 has a paralog, UPS3, that arose from the whole genome duplication
Saccharomyces cerevisiae (S288c)

RTC2

RRT11, YPQ3, YBR147W
Putative vacuolar membrane transporter for cationic amino acids; likely contributes to amino acid homeostasis by exporting cationic amino acids from the vacuole; positive regulation by Lys14p suggests that lysine may be the primary substrate; member of the PQ-loop family, with seven transmembrane domains; similar to mammalian PQLC2 vacuolar transporter; RTC2 has a paralog, YPQ1, that arose from the whole genome duplication

Negative Genetic

Mutations/deletions in separate genes, each of which alone causes a minimal phenotype, but when combined in the same cell results in a more severe fitness defect or lethality under a given condition. This term is reserved for high or low throughput studies with scores.

We generated a global genetic interaction network for Saccharomyces cerevisiae, constructing more than 23 million double mutants, identifying about 550,000 negative and about 350,000 positive genetic interactions. This comprehensive network maps genetic interactions for essential gene pairs, highlighting essential genes as densely connected hubs. Genetic interaction profiles enabled assembly of a hierarchical model of cell function, including modules corresponding to ... [more]
