HAL9

L000004704, YOL089C
Putative transcription factor containing a zinc finger; overexpression increases salt tolerance through increased expression of the ENA1 (Na+/Li+ extrusion pump) gene while gene disruption decreases both salt tolerance and ENA1 expression; HAL9 has a paralog, TBS1, that arose from the whole genome duplication

amphiphysin, L000001789, YDR388W
Actin-associated protein with roles in endocytosis and exocytosis; interacts with Rvs161p to regulate actin cytoskeleton, endocytosis, and viability following starvation or osmotic stress; recruited to bud tips by Gyl1p and Gyp5p during polarized growth; homolog of mammalian amphiphysin

Negative Genetic

Mutations/deletions in separate genes, each of which alone causes a minimal phenotype, but when combined in the same cell results in a more severe fitness defect or lethality under a given condition. This term is reserved for high or low throughput studies with scores.

We generated a global genetic interaction network for Saccharomyces cerevisiae, constructing more than 23 million double mutants, identifying about 550,000 negative and about 350,000 positive genetic interactions. This comprehensive network maps genetic interactions for essential gene pairs, highlighting essential genes as densely connected hubs. Genetic interaction profiles enabled assembly of a hierarchical model of cell function, including modules corresponding to ... [more]
