During mRNA 3' end formation, cleavage stimulation factor (CstF) binds to a GU-rich sequence downstream from the polyadenylation site and helps to stabilise the binding of cleavage-polyadenylation specificity factor (CPSF) to the upstream poly-adenylation sequence (AAUAAA).
