DAM1

L000004420, YGR113W
Essential subunit of the Dam1 complex (aka DASH complex); cooperates with Duo1p to connect the DASH complex with the microtubules (MT); couples kinetochores to the force produced by MT depolymerization thereby aiding in chromosome segregation; Ipl1p target for regulating kinetochore-MT attachments
Saccharomyces cerevisiae (S288c)

Strong kinetochore-microtubule attachments are essential for faithful segregation of sister chromatids during mitosis. The Dam1 and Ndc80 complexes are the main microtubule binding components of the Saccharomyces cerevisiae kinetochore. Cooperation between these two complexes enhances kinetochore-microtubule coupling and is regulated by Aurora B kinase. We show that the Ndc80 complex can simultaneously bind and bridge across two Dam1 complex rings ... [more]

An interaction is inferred when close proximity of interaction partners is detected by fluorescence resonance energy transfer between pairs of fluorophore-labeled molecules, such as occurs between CFP (donor) and YFP (acceptor) fusion proteins.
