Biochemical Activity (Phosphorylation)

An interaction is inferred from the biochemical effect of one protein upon another, for example, GTP-GDP exchange activity or phosphorylation of a substrate by a kinase. The bait protein executes the activity on the substrate hit protein. A Modification value is recorded for interactions of this type with the possible values Phosphorylation, Ubiquitination, Sumoylation, Dephosphorylation, Methylation, Prenylation, Acetylation, Deubiquitination, Proteolytic Processing, Glucosylation, Nedd(Rub1)ylation, Deacetylation, No Modification, Demethylation.

Repression of GCN5 histone acetyltransferase activity via bromodomain-mediated binding and phosphorylation by the Ku-DNA-dependent protein kinase complex.

Barlev NA, Poltoratsky V, Owen-Hughes T, Ying C, Liu L, Workman JL, Berger SL

GCN5, a putative transcriptional adapter in humans and yeast, possesses histone acetyltransferase (HAT) activity which has been linked to GCN5's role in transcriptional activation in yeast. In this report, we demonstrate a functional interaction between human GCN5 (hGCN5) and the DNA-dependent protein kinase (DNA-PK) holoenzyme. Yeast two-hybrid screening detected an interaction between the bromodomain of hGCN5 and the p70 subunit ... [more]
