Synthetic Rescue
A genetic interaction is inferred when mutations or deletions of one gene rescues the lethality or growth defect of a strain mutated or deleted for another gene.

Systematic analysis of bypass suppression of essential genes.
Essential genes tend to be highly conserved across eukaryotes, but, in some cases, their critical roles can be bypassed through genetic rewiring. From a systematic analysis of 728 different essential yeast genes, we discovered that 124 (17%) were dispensable essential genes. Through whole-genome sequencing and detailed genetic analysis, we investigated the genetic interactions and genome alterations underlying bypass suppression. Dispensable ... [more]
Throughput

Ontology Terms
- phenotype: vegetative growth (APO:0000106)
Additional Notes
- Mutation of both NUP100 and BRL1 genes was required for suppression of the NUP57 query gene phenotype.
- The interaction with BRL1 alone was confirmed by tetrad analysis and/or complementation assays.
