CLA1, MCS1, RLT1, SRK1, mRNA-binding translational repressor SSD1, L000002077, YDR293C
Translational repressor with a role in polar growth and wall integrity; regulated by Cbk1p phosphorylation to effect bud-specific translational control and localization of specific mRNAs; interacts with TOR pathway components; contains a functional N-terminal nuclear localization sequence and nucleocytoplasmic shuttling appears to be critical to Ssd1p function

Phenotypic Suppression

A genetic interaction is inferred when mutation or over expression of one gene results in suppression of any phenotype (other than lethality/growth defect) associated with mutation or over expression of another gene.

Oxidant resistance in a yeast mutant deficient in the Sit4 phosphatase.

Lopez-Mirabal HR, Winther JR, Kielland-Brandt MC

Resistance to thiol oxidation can arise from mutations altering redox homeostasis. A Saccharomyces cerevisiae sit4-110 mutant is here described, which was isolated as resistant to the thiol-specific oxidant dipyridyl disulfide (DPS) and which contains a single-residue substitution in the SIT4 gene. Sit4p is a protein phosphatase with multiple roles in signal transduction through the target-of-rapamycin (TOR) pathway. We found that ... [more]

Mutations/deletions in separate genes, each of which alone causes a minimal phenotype, but when combined in the same cell results in a more severe fitness defect or lethality under a given condition. This term is reserved for high or low throughput studies with scores.
