Synthetic Lethality
A genetic interaction is inferred when mutations or deletions in separate genes, each of which alone causes a minimal phenotype, result in lethality when combined in the same cell under a given condition.

The genetic interactome of prohibitins: coordinated control of cardiolipin and phosphatidylethanolamine by conserved regulators in mitochondria.
Prohibitin ring complexes in the mitochondrial inner membrane regulate cell proliferation as well as the dynamics and function of mitochondria. Although prohibitins are essential in higher eukaryotes, prohibitin-deficient yeast cells are viable and exhibit a reduced replicative life span. Here, we define the genetic interactome of prohibitins in yeast using synthetic genetic arrays, and identify 35 genetic interactors of prohibitins ... [more]
Throughput
- High Throughput|Low Throughput
Ontology Terms
- phenotype: inviable (APO:0000112)
Additional Notes
- High Throughput: Synthetic Genetic Array (SGA) analysis
- Low Throughput: GEP1 is also known as AIM30. The experiment involved gep1 phb1 double mutant cells expressing Phb1 from a tetracycline-regulatable promoter. Adding the tetracycline analogue doxycycline shut off PHB1 expression and inhibited cell growth.
