Molecular Profiles of Amyloid-? Proteoforms in Typical and Rapidly Progressive Alzheimer's Disease.

Noor A, Zafar S, Shafiq M, Younas N, Siegert A, Mann FA, Kruss S, Schmitz M, Dihazi H, Ferrer I, Zerr I

The molecular determinants of atypical clinical variants of Alzheimer's disease, including the recently discovered rapidly progressive Alzheimer's disease (rpAD), are unknown to date. Fibrilization of the amyloid-? (A?) peptide is the most frequently studied candidate in this context. The A? peptide can exist as multiple proteoforms that vary in their post-translational processing, amyloidogenesis, and toxicity. The current study was designed ... [more]

An interaction is inferred when a bait protein is affinity captured from cell extracts by either polyclonal antibody or epitope tag and the associated interaction partner identified by Western blot with a specific polyclonal antibody or second epitope tag. This category is also used if an interacting protein is visualized directly by dye stain or radioactivity. Note that this differs from any co-purification experiment involving affinity capture in that the co-purification experiment involves at least one extra purification step to get rid of potential contaminating proteins.
