A conditional allele of the Saccharomyces cerevisiae HOP1 gene is suppressed by overexpression of two other meiosis-specific genes: RED1 and REC104.
The HOP1 gene of Saccharomyces cerevisiae is believed to encode a protein component of the synaptonemal complex, the structure formed when homologous chromosomes synapse during meiotic prophase.
