HKE1, TAP1, XRN2, ssRNA exonuclease RAT1, L000001584, YOR048C
Nuclear 5' to 3' single-stranded RNA exonuclease; involved in RNA metabolism, including rRNA and snRNA processing as well as poly (A+) dependent and independent mRNA transcription termination; required for cotranscriptional pre-rRNA cleavage
Saccharomyces cerevisiae (S288c)

CEG1

L000000291, YGL130W
Guanylyltransferase involved in mRNA 5' capping; subunit of the mRNA capping enzyme, which is a heterotetramer composed of two molecules of Ceg1p and a homodimer of Cet1p, the mRNA 5?-triphosphatase subunit; nuclear import of Ceg1p requires interaction with Cet1p; mammalian capping enzyme is a single bifunctional polypeptide

Synthetic Growth Defect

A genetic interaction is inferred when mutations in separate genes, each of which alone causes a minimal phenotype, result in a significant growth defect under a given condition when combined in the same cell.

The yeast 5'-3' exonuclease Rat1p functions during transcription elongation by RNA polymerase II.

Jimeno-Gonzalez S, Haaning LL, Malagon F, Jensen TH

Termination of RNA polymerase II (RNAPII) transcription of protein-coding genes occurs downstream of cleavage/polyadenylation sites. According to the "torpedo" model, the 5'-3' exonuclease Rat1p/Xrn2p attacks the newly formed 5' end of the cleaved pre-mRNA, causing the still transcribing RNAPII to terminate. Here we demonstrate a similar role of S. cerevisiae Rat1p within the gene body. We find that the transcription ... [more]
