YRA1

SHE11, RNA-binding protein YRA1, L000002959, L000002873, YDR381W
Nuclear polyadenylated RNA-binding protein; required for export of poly(A)+ mRNA from the nucleus; proposed to couple mRNA export with 3' end processing via its interactions with Mex67p and Pcf11p; interacts with DBP2; inhibits the helicase activity of Dbp2; functionally redundant with Yra2p, another REF family member

MLP1

MPL1, L000001141, L000001122, YKR095W
Myosin-like protein associated with the nuclear envelope; nuclear basket protein that connects the nuclear pore complex with the nuclear interior; involved with Tel1p in telomere length control; involved with Pml1p and Pml39p in nuclear retention of unspliced mRNAs; MLP1 has a paralog, MLP2, that arose from the whole genome duplication
Saccharomyces cerevisiae (S288c)

Synthetic Rescue

A genetic interaction is inferred when mutations or deletions of one gene rescues the lethality or growth defect of a strain mutated or deleted for another gene.

The evolutionarily conserved mRNA export receptor Mex67/NXF1 associates with mRNAs through its adaptor, Yra1/REF, allowing mRNA ribonucleoprotein (mRNP) exit through nuclear pores. However, alternate adaptors should exist, since Yra1 is dispensable for mRNA export in Drosophila and Caenorhabditis elegans. Here we report that Mex67 interacts directly with Nab2, an essential shuttling mRNA-binding protein required for export. We further show that ... [more]

Affinity Capture-Western

An interaction is inferred when a bait protein is affinity captured from cell extracts by either polyclonal antibody or epitope tag and the associated interaction partner identified by Western blot with a specific polyclonal antibody or second epitope tag. This category is also used if an interacting protein is visualized directly by dye stain or radioactivity. Note that this differs from any co-purification experiment involving affinity capture in that the co-purification experiment involves at least one extra purification step to get rid of potential contaminating proteins.

Negative Genetic

Mutations/deletions in separate genes, each of which alone causes a minimal phenotype, but when combined in the same cell results in a more severe fitness defect or lethality under a given condition. This term is reserved for high or low throughput studies with scores.
