Controlling the number of functional gamma-aminobutyric acid A (GABA(A)) receptors in neuronal membranes is a crucial factor for the efficacy of inhibitory neurotransmission. Here we describe the direct interaction of GABA(A) receptors with the ubiquitin-like protein Plic-1.
