The Aspergillus nidulans protein kinase NIMA regulates mitotic commitment, while the human and Xenopus equivalents influence centrosome function. Two recessive, temperature-sensitive mutations in the Schizosaccharomyces pombe NIMA homologue, Fin1, blocked spindle formation at 37 degrees C.
