Affinity Capture-Western

An interaction is inferred when a bait protein is affinity captured from cell extracts by either polyclonal antibody or epitope tag and the associated interaction partner identified by Western blot with a specific polyclonal antibody or second epitope tag. This category is also used if an interacting protein is visualized directly by dye stain or radioactivity. Note that this differs from any co-purification experiment involving affinity capture in that the co-purification experiment involves at least one extra purification step to get rid of potential contaminating proteins.

Characterization of a novel meiosis-specific protein within the central element of the synaptonemal complex.

Hamer G, Gell K, Kouznetsova A, Novak I, Benavente R, Hoeoeg C

During the first meiotic prophase, alignment and synapsis of the homologous chromosomes are mediated by the synaptonemal complex. Incorrect assembly of this complex results in cell death, impaired meiotic recombination and formation of aneuploid germ cells. We have identified a novel mouse meiosis-specific protein, TEX12, and shown it to be a component of the central element structure of the synaptonemal ... [more]
