Biochemical Activity (Phosphorylation)

An interaction is inferred from the biochemical effect of one protein upon another, for example, GTP-GDP exchange activity or phosphorylation of a substrate by a kinase. The bait protein executes the activity on the substrate hit protein. A Modification value is recorded for interactions of this type with the possible values Phosphorylation, Ubiquitination, Sumoylation, Dephosphorylation, Methylation, Prenylation, Acetylation, Deubiquitination, Proteolytic Processing, Glucosylation, Nedd(Rub1)ylation, Deacetylation, No Modification, Demethylation.

Guanosine 5'-O-(3-thiotriphosphate) (GTPgammaS) stimulation of GLUT4 translocation is tyrosine kinase-dependent.

Elmendorf JS, Chen D, Pessin JE

Guanosine 5'-O-(3-thiotriphosphate) (GTPgammaS) treatment of permeabilized adipocytes results in GLUT4 translocation similar to that elicited by insulin treatment. However, although the selective phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase inhibitor, wortmannin, completely prevented insulin-stimulated GLUT4 translocation, it was without effect on GTPgammaS-stimulated GLUT4 translocation. In addition, insulin was an effective stimulant, whereas GTPgammaS was a very weak activator of the downstream Akt serine/threonine kinase. Consistent ... [more]
