Machado-Joseph disease (MJD), the most common dominantly inherited ataxia worldwide, is caused by a polyglutamine (polyQ) expansion in the deubiquitinating (DUB) enzyme ataxin-3. Interestingly, MJD can present clinically with features of Parkinsonism.
