Biochemical Activity (Sumoylation)

An interaction is inferred from the biochemical effect of one protein upon another, for example, GTP-GDP exchange activity or phosphorylation of a substrate by a kinase. The bait protein executes the activity on the substrate hit protein. A Modification value is recorded for interactions of this type with the possible values Phosphorylation, Ubiquitination, Sumoylation, Dephosphorylation, Methylation, Prenylation, Acetylation, Deubiquitination, Proteolytic Processing, Glucosylation, Nedd(Rub1)ylation, Deacetylation, No Modification, Demethylation.

Mitotic kinase Aurora-B is regulated by SUMO-2/3 conjugation/deconjugation during mitosis.

Ban R, Nishida T, Urano T

The small ubiquitin-related modifier (SUMO) system of higher eukaryotes plays important roles in normal cell division, especially in chromosome segregation. However, only a few mitotic SUMO substrates have been identified in mammals. Here, we show that the mitotic kinase Aurora-B can be modified by SUMO. The E3 SUMO-protein ligase PIAS3 [protein inhibitor of activated STAT (signal transducer and activator of ... [more]
