Apg7p/Cvt2p, a protein-activating enzyme, is essential for both the Apg12p-Apg5p conjugation system and the Apg8p membrane targeting in autophagy and cytoplasm-to-vacuole targeting in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
