Dosage Rescue
A genetic interaction is inferred when over expression or increased dosage of one gene rescues the lethality or growth defect of a strain that is mutated or deleted for another gene.
Publication
Mek1 kinase governs outcomes of meiotic recombination and the checkpoint response.
Homologous recombination promotes proper segregation of chromosomes during meiosis. Programmed double-strand breaks (DSBs) initiate recombination and are repaired preferentially using the homolog rather than the sister chromatid template. In yeast, activation of Mek1 kinase upholds this bias. Mek1 is also a proposed effector kinase in the recombination checkpoint that responds to aberrant DNA and/or axis structures. Throughput
- Low Throughput
Ontology Terms
- phenotype: chromosome/plasmid maintenance (APO:0000143)
- phenotype: protein/peptide accumulation (APO:0000149)
- phenotype: viability (APO:0000111)
Additional Notes
- genetic complex
- overexpression of Mek1-GST can partially rescue the reduced levels of various proteins, fast progression through mitosis and decrease in crossover products during DNA replication seen in a rad17/pch2 double mutant
