RIM11
GSK3, MDS1, serine/threonine protein kinase RIM11, L000001056, YMR139W
Protein kinase; required for signal transduction during entry into meiosis; promotes the formation of the Ime1p-Ume6p complex by phosphorylating Ime1p and Ume6p; shares similarity with mammalian glycogen synthase kinase 3-beta; protein abundance increases in response to DNA replication stress; RIM11 has a paralog, MRK1, that arose from the whole genome duplication

ARD2, NAA50, ROG2, YOR253W
Subunit of protein N-terminal acetyltransferase NatA; NatA is comprised of Nat1p, Ard1p, and Nat5p; N-terminally acetylates many proteins, which influences multiple processes such as the cell cycle, heat-shock resistance, mating, sporulation, and telomeric silencing

Synthetic Rescue
A genetic interaction is inferred when mutations or deletions of one gene rescues the lethality or growth defect of a strain mutated or deleted for another gene.

Yeast glycogen synthase kinase 3 is involved in protein degradation in cooperation with Bul1, Bul2, and Rsp5.
The yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae has four genes, MCK1, MDS1 (RIM11), MRK1, and YOL128c, that encode glycogen synthase kinase 3 (GSK-3) homologs. The gsk-3 null mutant, in which these four genes are disrupted, shows temperature sensitivity, which is suppressed by the expression of mammalian GSK-3beta and by an osmotic stabilizer. Suppression of temperature sensitivity by an osmotic stabilizer is also observed ... [more]
