A conserved patch near the C-terminus of histone H4 is required for genome stability in budding yeast.
A screen of yeast histone alanine substitution mutants revealed that mutations in any of three adjacent residues, L97, Y98 or G99, near the C-terminus of H4 led to a unique phenotype.
