PPH21

phosphoprotein phosphatase 2A catalytic subunit PPH21, L000001472, YDL134C
Catalytic subunit of protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A); functionally redundant with Pph22p; methylated at C terminus; forms alternate complexes with several regulatory subunits; involved in signal transduction and regulation of mitosis; forms nuclear foci upon DNA replication stress; PPH21 has a paralog, PPH22, that arose from the whole genome duplication

PPH3

phosphoprotein phosphatase PP4 catalytic subunit PPH3, L000001471, YDR075W
Catalytic subunit of protein phosphatase PP4 complex; Pph3p and Psy2p form active complex, Psy4p may provide substrate specificity; regulates recovery from the DNA damage checkpoint, the gene conversion- and single-strand annealing-mediated pathways of meiotic double-strand break repair and efficient Non-Homologous End-Joining (NHEJ) pathway; involved in activation of Gln3p to alleviate nitrogen catabolite repression; Pph3p and Psy2p localize to foci on meiotic chromosomes
Saccharomyces cerevisiae (S288c)

Synthetic Lethality

A genetic interaction is inferred when mutations or deletions in separate genes, each of which alone causes a minimal phenotype, result in lethality when combined in the same cell under a given condition.

The role of Saccharomyces cerevisiae type 2A phosphatase in the actin cytoskeleton and in entry into mitosis.

Lin FC, Arndt KT

We have prepared a temperature-sensitive Saccharomyces cerevisiae type 2A phosphatase (PP2A) mutant, pph21-102. At the restrictive temperature, the pph21-102 cells arrested predominantly with small or aberrant buds, and their actin cytoskeleton and chitin deposition were abnormal. The involvement of PP2A in bud growth may be due to the role of PP2A in actin distribution during the cell cycle. Moreover, after ... [more]
