Biochemical Activity (Phosphorylation)
An interaction is inferred from the biochemical effect of one protein upon another, for example, GTP-GDP exchange activity or phosphorylation of a substrate by a kinase. The bait protein executes the activity on the substrate hit protein. A Modification value is recorded for interactions of this type with the possible values Phosphorylation, Ubiquitination, Sumoylation, Dephosphorylation, Methylation, Prenylation, Acetylation, Deubiquitination, Proteolytic Processing, Glucosylation, Nedd(Rub1)ylation, Deacetylation, No Modification, Demethylation.

Degradation of the transcription factor Gcn4 requires the kinase Pho85 and the SCF(CDC4) ubiquitin-ligase complex.
Gcn4, a yeast transcriptional activator that promotes the expression of amino acid and purine biosynthesis genes, is rapidly degraded in rich medium. Here we report that SCF(CDC4), a recently characterized protein complex that acts in conjunction with the ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme Cdc34 to degrade cell cycle regulators, is also necessary for the degradation of the transcription factor Gcn4. Degradation of Gcn4 ... [more]
